East Africa Water Integrity Forum

May 9 - 11, 2017

Water integrity is a strong counterforce to corruption in the water sector worldwide. It refers to honest, transparent, accountable and inclusive decision-making by water stakeholders. Water Integrity is an essential ingredient of good governance, vital for achieving the water related SDGs.

To stimulate higher levels of integrity in the water sector, the East African forum on Water Integrity will be organised by the Ethiopian Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Electricity (MOWIE) and the Water Integrity Network (WIN), in collaboration with  partners, from May 9th to 11th 2017 in Addis Ababa.

Country experiences are shared with participants from various countries including Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, African regional institutions, and co-convening international and national organisations and NGOs. The forum will also be an opportunity to jointly develop action plans.

Programme

The forum includes country stocktaking and experience sharing, working on thematic streams, and developing joint activities and recommendations for future direction on water integrity and governance in East Africa.

Day 1 will take stock of the status of water governance and integrity in the region. On Day 2 participants contribute to thematic workshops, each composed of three sessions. Day 3 focuses on the way forward in terms of cooperation for good water governance and integrity. Participants have the opportunity to learn from each other and to showcase their own work through poster presentations, market sessions and networking opportunities. (Download tentative program).

Co-conveners and partners

Forum co-conveners provide significant contributions in terms of forum contents e.g. by leading and coordinating a full-day workshop, coordinating country participation as well as financial and/or in-kind contributions to the organization of the forum. They will jointly set the strategic direction of the forum.
Forum partners support the advocacy efforts around the forum and contribute to its content. They provide visible support to the objectives, key messages and recommendations of the forum, but they are less directly involved in shaping and organizing the forum. Key partners that have committed to actively engage in the forum so far include IRC, Ministry of Water and Irrigation (Kenya), SUEZ on behalf of AQUAFED, and MetaMeta.

Participation

The composition of the group participants reflects the multi-stakeholder character of water governance and integrity, the diversity of experiences in various countries at different levels, as well as the complementarity of bottom-up and top-down processes.  Participants are generally expected to cover their own cost. There are limited number of sponsored spots to participate from forum co-conveners and partners, but contributors will be prioritized in this regard.
The list of participants will be developed through the partnership network and by invitation only to ensure that participants do not just learn, but also bring in knowledge and experience that benefits other participants.
