Description

This video explains issues on groundwater in The Netherlands. Groundwater in The Netherlands consists mainly of precipitation over the last 10,000 years. Rainfall infiltrates and recharges the groundwater. It can also be recharged by rivers and canals. In dune areas artificial recharge takes place which is the main drinking water resource in the Western part of The Netherlands. A decline in groundwater levels can have major impact on nature reserves, but also on urban areas where subsidence can occur.
