In Tigray, Northern Ethiopia, excess rainfall is being captured by a series of micro-dams. The walls of these dams are typically constructed with soil and covered with a layer of stones. On average, 1.5 to 2 million cubic meters of water can be captured in this way, providing water for agricultural and domestic uses, while recharging groundwater resources and creating a cooler local microclimate.
