Trout River Restoration Project: A Geomorphic-based Approach

This video explains the geomorphic-based approach to restoring rivers. The approach incorporates measures that work with the river’s natural tendencies, and results in a stream channel and floodplane that functions in equilibrium with the flows and sediments produced in the stream’s watershed.

(“The river told us what is needed, what features were holding…” says Mike Kline from Vermont Rivers Program, explaining such an intervention to restore the Trout river in Vermont, USA.)

The approach is motivated by the need to strike a balance between human investments and river dynamics in an economically and ecologically sustainable manner. Conflict between the two is expensive and damaging to both.
