Saltwater is a byproduct of oil and gas production processses. The sheer amount of saltwater produced makes its management a challenge; it could no longer be just discposed across the surface after a point.

Injection wells are used to dispose the saltwater through subterranean rock layers, while making sure that it does not mix with groundwater that could be used for drinking/ irrigation.

This video discusses the use of Class II injection wells- - what they are, why we need them, how they are operated, and how they are regulated.
