Description

This video released by "Alianza por el agua" collects the alarming situation of children from developing countries in relation to water resources.

The third cause of infant mortality is related to poor water quality. Actually, United Nations assume that 1.8 million people die every year from diarrhoeal diseases (including cholera, malaria, dengue fever and other infections); 90% are children under 5, mostly in developing countries. This fact it is mostly attributed to unsafe water supply, inadequate sanitation and hygiene.

It is imperative to recognize the critical link between clean water and adequate sanitation in the protection of child health. Threats to health, food, environment, community, and economic security are highly relevant to the issue. Its important to emphasise that the access to water and sanitation are basic human rights.

La Alianza por el agua (The Alliance for Water) is an initiative that links governments, water suppliers, research companies and social organizations, both in Spain and Central America into a comprehensive union to implement the human right to water and sanitation of the Central American population in the context of the Millennium Development Goals.
