Description

This film looks into the sustainability issues of rural and peri-urban water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services and how lack of planning for operation and maintenance in the end lead to waste of investments.

Maintaining service levels over time and avoiding working according to an ad-hoc system is possible by using the life-cycle cost approach in the planning of WASH services.
WASHCost has worked with countries to identify the long-term costs of sustaining rural and peri-urban water, sanitation and hygiene services and it has managed to embed the concept of life-cycle costing with donors, national and local governments and NGOs. So that services continue to meet national standards reliably...for generations.

WASHCost has dealt with the issue of sustaining rural and peri-urban water, sanitation and hygiene services in Ghana, India, Mozambique and Burkina-Faso.
