Description

The earthquake that shook Haiti in January 2010 caused, amongst other emergencies, a lack of drinkable water. Then, the company Optima Renovables designed H2Optima, which treats contaminated water in Haiti and desalinates sea water here.  Their objective was to market a product that was sustainable: this machine is a solar powered water purification unit and It is based on ultrafiltration and inverse osmosis, techniques employed in water treatment plants.

Its promoters were thinking of places without drinkable water and in extreme situations.  However, they have seen that there is also a demand much nearer to home, for example to decontaminate water in agricultural storage tanks.  As well as a simple mechanism, it has also been designed to be easy to transport to arrive wherever is needed.

“El Medi Ambient” is a daily program directed by Xavier Duran for the TV3 information service, one of the channels of the regional “Televisió de Catalunya”. It aims to provide an informative but rigorous overview of environmental issues to a broad audience. The programs are not only about natural areas, biodiversity and archaeological remains but also innovation, economics, welfare and health, and they always try to reflect different sides of the argument.
