Bangladesh: Improving Drainage an Opportunity in Polder Regions

In Bangldesh’s polder areas, drainage is a key issue, exacerbated at times by roads criss-crossing the polder areas and blocking the flow of water.

Improving drainage frees up more land that can be cultivated, or can be used to grow second and third crops in course of a year.

In Bangladesh’s Polder 43/2F, it is estimated that improving drainage over 20% of the land (200 ha) can lead to an increase crop output worth over 190,000 Euros.
