Tigray, Ethiopia: Preparing for rains, preparing for road water harvesting
In Ethiopia, the rainy season has set in.
Like every year, various regional governments carried out mass mobilisation campaigns in preparation for the rains.
Like every year, rural communities took part in large-scale efforts to construct water harvesting and soil conservation structures.
This video captures roadside communities hard at work in the northern Tigray region. They are constructing recharge pits, infiltration ponds, soil bunds, and various other structures ... to capture runoff from the roads in the rainy season and channel it towards fields, househoulds, and groundwater recharge zones.
Coming soon on TheWaterChannel will be videos capturing how these structures fared during the rains. Keep watching!
With best regards,
