Social Cohesion and Disaster Resilience
In this video, civil society expert Naseer Memon shares his experiences from the disastrous 2010 Pakistan floods. He found that the society at large showed remarkable willingness to take in the displaced. When the state is limited in capacity, as Pakistan’s is, this is a crucial source of resilience to extreme events.
Is such social cohesion something we can only cherish? Or can we build on them to enhance our resilience strategies further?
