Water is crucial in sustainable development, so much is clear. The linkages between water, food and energy combined with climate change, economic growth, population increase and enormous urbanization rates demands coherent governance and management systems of our water resoures.
Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) is a planning, implementation and operation & maintenance process which promotes participation, cooperation, coordination and communication among all stakeholders.
IWRM focusses on maximizing economic and social welfare without compromising the sustainability of ecosystems and the environment.
As you can see IWRM is not easy and to quote a World Water Forum 6 speaker "It's messy, but necessary". Learn more on IWRM through these videos:
GWP has developed the IWRM toolbox including resource material. Between February and April you are all invited to give feedback through a simple questionnaire. Share your opinion and fill in the 16 questions here.
Warm wishes from the World Water Forum! (check out some of our wwf6 videos)
