South Sudan: Glimpses of the World’s Newest Nation
On July 9, South Sudan celebrated its first anniversary as an independent nation. As it works its way through due processes of nation-building, it faces enormous challenges. Decades of conflict have taken a toll on infrastructure, natural resources and livelihoods. This has hampered development efforts, especially in the areas of water, sanitation, nutrition and food security.
