Good Neighbors: Stories of Water Cooperation
Happy New Year!! May 2013 be a year of happiness and success for you!
2013 has also been proclaimed as the International Year of Water Cooperation, by the United Nations. This means that water people and water institutions around the world will place special emphasis on water cooperation initiatives, water diplomacy, transboundary management and legal frameworks.
This is important, for while conflict makes headlines easily, instances of cooperation largely go unnoticed. TheWaterBlog post ‘Good Neighbours’ captures some examples from Yemen, Kenya, Ethiopia and Sudan. Ranging from shared small wells to large irrigation systems, they are so deeply embedded in day-to-day life that they are almost invisible.
Also, these videos on TheWaterChannel tell stories of big initiatives, small examples and analyses of cooperation over shared water resources.
