Imagine water being so scarce that you have to compete with bees to get to it. And that the bees, being more aggressive, win the battle because you can’t bear the stings. And so you are forced to move to another area.

This is what happens even now in Ciuabet in Lakes State, South Sudan.  South Sudan is the world’s newest country, but also one whose development has been marred by 40 years of conflict behind it. In many forest villages in Lakes State, people move away in the dry season to areas where there is ample water – to escape the bees and the problems of inadequate drinking water systems.
