Background and Objectives

In the world of projects relevant to water, failure is often understood as ‘no success’. This understanding of failure impedes reflecting on and learning from failures, often resulting in repetition of the same action that led to failures. We aim to challenge this conventional view of failure. We propose to transform the understandings of failures from a shameful subject confined to closed-door meetings and evaluation reports into a learning opportunity.

Our goal is to create more open and inclusive learning environments, where diverse stakeholder groups feel empowered to share experiences and insights. This, we hope, can contribute to continuous learning and meaningful societal impacts.

Join us as we explore the meanings of failures and a potential on learning from failures as a means to deal with underlying challenges in water and climate projects. In Episode 4, we invite you to engage in a conversation with invited speakers and share own reflections and insights.

To ensure constructive engagement, we adhere to principles that emphasize respect and empathy. This includes refraining from naming or blaming individuals or projects, drawing insights only from cases where the participant has been directly involved, and not causing harm to any with shared information. A reflection on the discussions will be published in a blogpost to contribute to the Unlearning and Relearning: Making Sense about Social Inclusion and Justice in Managing Water, an inspirational source for knowing water.
