‘Chadas’ – Ancient water lifting device.

In pockets of Rajasthan state, India still remains one of the oldest forms of lifting water from wells for irrigation using animal draught power. This is called the ‘Chadas’a tin drum with a leather snout attached in this case. Bullocks walking down an incline lift the water up from an 80 feet deep well. With the arrival of electricity and diesel pumps this millenia old technology a true water heritage will disappear.
