The new gained land, locally called chars,  along the coast of Bangladesh remain vulnerable to the erosive forces of the ocean. In order to strengthen local communities to protect their new reclaimed land, a tree planting programme was started. The trees lower the energy level of the waves, diminishing the erosive impact of the water on the land. With commuity role plays, sketches and theather plays awareness is created among the local residents how and which trees to be planted. Koen de Wilde, from the Dutch led programme CDSP-III (Community Developed and Settlement Programme) explains also children are made aware through inclusion of climate change topics in teaching material at primary schools.
