The Blue Gold program is a water management for development endeavor funded by the Governments of Bangladesh and the Kingdom of Netherlands. The program is implemented by Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) and Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) in partnership with other government and non-government organization as needed. The purpose of the Blue Gold program is to improve quality of life in the south-west coastal area of Bangladesh—26 polders in the districts of Khulna, Patuakhali and Satkhira—by maximizing the use of water resource through participatory water management. The project aims to reduce poverty of 150,000 families living in the selected polders by achieving sustainable socio-economic development in a livable environment. The program operates through four components in order to mobilize people to form groups in collectively combating against poverty by water resource management, increased farm and non-farm production and its marketing, and to maintain healthy environment and gender equity.
