Ecological Rodent Management – Stories from Harran plain, Turkey

Rodents cause substantial reductions to food production, water supplies, and the economy. They display a wide range of alimentary preferences, which often include grains, fruits, and vegetables, thus making them major agricultural pests. Rodents may eat and spoil food quantities that could feed 280 million person per year globally. Harran plain in Turkey with the MED4PEST project (med4pest.org) we are working at Harran plain to measure yield loses in the greenhouses. There are huge loses in green houses which is neglected but economical loses tremendously high. In the project we are aiming to promote EBRM (Ecological Rodent Management) practices reduce yield loses and we will build Bio-Rodenticide that can kill rodent, but it does not have harmful effect for the environment. In the end of the project, we will build %100 organic plant based bio rodenticide.
