As part of its objective to build up traditional rainfed agriculture and improve livelihoods, the Western Sudan resources Management Programme has supported the development and maintenance of Hafirs (small ponds) in the area. Hafirs help harvest rainwater. They then come in use as water sources and means to recharge the local water buffer. This has also had visible positive effects on agriculture, livestock, education and even the quality of life for women.
