In villages in the Thar Desert in Pakistan the groundwater is heavily contaminated. Large parts of the local people believe they are cursed if they get sick or disabled when using or drinking the water. There are infiltration plants, but there are not used due to the fact they are expensive and people do not how to use them properly.
Ali Akbar tries to create awareness about the value of clean (drinking)water. However, he faces various challenges like accessibility issues and supernatural beliefs. He uses, for instance, the help of medical experts to convince the local people that the bad water quality is effecting their health. A lot of local people suffer from aching bones and rotting teeth. In addition, Mr. Akbar educates people by using theatre and group meetings. He also explains to individuals the advantages of filtering the water before drinking.
