Resolving rodent pressure and improving farmers’ livelihoods in Lebanon

Rodents are among the most widespread and adaptable mammals worldwide, and in Lebanon, their presence is felt across diverse landscapes, from coastal zones to forested mountains and semi-arid areas. This ecological diversity provides ideal habitats for many rodent species, making infestations a persistent yet often overlooked challenge for farmers. The resulting crop losses threaten both livelihoods and food security.

Through this video, produced under the RESOLVE project, we bring this challenge to light through the voices of farmers themselves. They share their experiences with rodent infestations, reflect on the limitations of past control measures, and explain how their shift toward Ecologically-Based Rodent Management (EBRM) has transformed their practices.

EBRM offers a flexible and sustainable approach, adapting to Lebanon’s varied ecosystems while reducing reliance on harmful chemical rodenticides. It is a relatively new yet promising method, with strong potential for scaling up and integration into national agricultural policies.
