Rice Straw Composting

This video presents a method of composting rice straw in 45 days at ICRISAT campus. The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) is a non-profit, non-political organization that conducts agricultural research for development in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa with a wide array of partners throughout the world. It also shares ideas on improving presentation, if the product has to be sold. The method is mainly targeted to farmers who wish to prepare compost for their own use or as a business enterprise. When it was demonstrated to farmers in Haryana and Punjab, they realized that it is a laborious work, but around 4 % improved yield in a year. The value of the compost was tested at PAU campus in field experiments. It is important to note that the good effect of any compost can last for at least 2-years.
