Room for the River, Middelwaard, floodplain excavation

The Middelwaard at Rhenen is an old island in the river. To lower the dams at both sides of the Middelwaard and dig up a part of the secondary channel, the old characteristics of the island will come back. The water level in the Lower Rhine will decrease during high water and The Middelwaard will become a nature reserve.
