Over the past five years, The Washing Machine Project has travelled the globe with one mission: to alleviate the burden of handwashing clothes for billions of people. What started as an idea during a sabbatical in South India, when Nav Sawhney witnessed women spending up to 20 hours a week handwashing clothes, has grown into a global movement. The Washing Machine Project designs, manufactures and distributes manual, off-grid washing machines that uses half the water used in traditional handwashing and saves up to 75% of time for the user. Today, The Washing Machine Project is impacting over 30,000 lives in 15 countries, thanks to the support of a dedicated community and global partnerships. Follow our journey of innovation, design, and social impact.
