Only one in ten households in Burkina Faso has an appropriate latrine. Sources of drinking water are jeopardised by wastewater, and there is often not enough safe water for personal hygiene. These conditions often lead to the spread of disease. By building new latrines and communal toilets, setting up proper wastewater management systems and introducing ecological sanitation systems, hygienic conditions are improved for the benefit of the people and the environment.
