This documentary by the WAHARA project highlights the vital shift towards sustainable conservation farming in Zambia, a country where 85% of cultivated land relies entirely on unpredictable rainfall. For years, smallholder farmers have struggled with recurring droughts, livestock diseases, and severe land degradation caused by conventional plowing methods that strip the soil of its essential moisture. To combat these challenges, Conservation Farming, an innovative water harvesting technology centered on three core principles: minimum soil disturbance, planting cover crops, and practicing continuous crop rotation. By trapping moisture exactly where the crops need it, these techniques have been proven to more than double crop yields compared to traditional tillage. It also shows how conservation farming is successfully rebuilding the soil, securing livelihoods, and cultivating a much more resilient agricultural future for the region.
