Small Blessings
By Frank van Steenbergen, March 26, 2019
On 22 March 2019 at the Sumatrakade in Amsterdam a delicate miracle happened. It rained in a small area of 15 metres length around two bare trees. The rest of the area remained entirely dry. It rained for twenty minutes and did not stop. Little pools formed on the old quai pavement and rain drops were falling into the pools. The sky was totally overcast. I was there.
Small blessings, and little miracles. If we see them there are many. They do not need to be spectacular: the friendliness of a fellow traveller, the trust of a stranger, the radiance of flowers, a wise word of a parent, the gentle love in a family, health when we have it, the smell of grass and kind rain in general, the blessing of recognizing blessings and acting upon them.
