Mzee Nzau has decided to convert his bushland to grassland, in order to feed his cows. He has prepared three acres for grass production, which he feeds to his cows through a cut-and-carry system. Kaindi works with the County Government of Kitui and is promoting and supporting the cultivation of indigenous grasses among farmers in Kitui County.
This video is part of a series on pasture production in the drylandsof Kitui, Kenya, showcases 6 select farmers. They share their lessons and experiences on various aspects: one specializes in milk production, another sells hay, while yet another does seed production and livestock fattening simultaneously. They are all pioneers, venturing into active cultivation of grass. This is a new practice in the area, so they have an important role in their communities, showing and teaching others the importance of pasture production. Watch and learn from these role models!
