Kavindu has been doing serious dairy farming in Kitui County, with his 8 cows. He shares that farmers in Kitui County have many challenges with growing crops, often there is complete crop failure. Pasture will never fail; it always gives you something. Even without animals, you can make more money from grass compared to crops like maize and beans. When people see that it pays, I think it will change.
This video is part of a series on pasture production in the drylandsof Kitui, Kenya, showcases 6 select farmers. They share their lessons and experiences on various aspects: one specializes in milk production, another sells hay, while yet another does seed production and livestock fattening simultaneously. They are all pioneers, venturing into active cultivation of grass. This is a new practice in the area, so they have an important role in their communities, showing and teaching others the importance of pasture production. Watch and learn from these role models!
