In Bangldesh’s polder areas, drainage is a key issue, exacerbated at times by roads criss-crossing the polders that block khals (tidal canals).
Improving drainage frees up more land that can be cultivated, or can be used to grow second and third crops in course of a year.
In Bangladesh’s Polder 26, it is estimated that improving drainage over 60% of the land can lead to an increase crop output worth over 1 million Euros.
