Dam Project Threatens 11,000-Year-Old Village

Hassankeyf is an 11,000-year-old village situated on the shore of the Tigris River in southeastern Turkey. A place that meets six of the eight criteria to be a World Heritage site. But the Turkish government has not applied for UNESCO heritage. The plans are to build the so-called Ilisu Dam, which would completely cover Hassankeyf.
