Flood utilization and flood protection in Bhag Nari, Balochistan (Pakistan)

During the monsoons, seasonal rivers in the largely semi-arid Balochistan province (Pakistan) swell up. Local communities have ingenious ways of utilizing these floods for irrigation, domestic use and groundwater recharge. They fall under the umbrella of ‘Spate Irrigation.’ Sometimes these floods get out of hand and damage life and property.
This video depicts this unique hydrological phenomenon, and select interventions that (a) helped local communities harness the seasonal floods to expand their drinking water supply and (b) helped minimize flood-related damage to lives and property.
