Groundwater is the world’s largest store of freshwater, and the primary source of drinking water for nearly half the world’s population. It gets little attention; it’s out of sight and out of mind. Aquifers have enormous storage capacity and can be replenished; hence, they can play a tremendous role in preventing difficult situations that are becoming more frequent with climate change.
