After 60+ years of farming based on synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, and intensive water use, Indian farmers are ready to switch to the more sustainable organic methods of agriculture. But there is a lot holding them back. The existing system of subsidies, extension, and market-based is proving too rigid to accommodate those willing to switch to organic.
