Is Desalination the Answer to the Water Shortage?

This story explores whether seawater desalination – which Israel heavily invests in – is a sustainable solution to the water shortage in the Middle East, regardless of the environmental damage. Desalinated water provides over the 40% of Israel’s water supply, which means lots of energy is used. Three desalination plants have been launched on the Israeli short coastline since 2005 a few more are being built.

Yermi Brenner is an Israeli-American journalist, reporting on ethnic tension, political conflicts, and societal trends – through the personal stories of people affected by them. In this video, he poses the issue about desalinitation of the seawater as the answer to the scarcity.
