Naveed Alam has been working as a Researcher in the Department of Water Management at Delft University of Technology since November 2007. His PhD research is on ‘Sustainable conjunctive use of groundwater for additional irrigation’. His PhD research aims to develop solutions to make groundwater use for additional irrigation sustainable, i.e., to limit the salinity of pumped water in the long run.
In this talk Naveed discusses sustainable options for groundwater irrigation in Punjab, part of the Indus Basin Irrigation System. He uses groundwater models to predict the impact of different scenarios in the groundwater resources and comes up with a sustainable solution for groundwater irrigation.
This presentation was developed for teaching purposes as part of The World Bank funded project “Curriculum Development for IWRM and PIM in Sindh, Pakistan”.
