Local Perspectives on Roadside Spring Protection in Nepal

The construction of roads in mountainous regions presents significant challenges to both vital spring water resources and the sustainability of road infrastructure. When springs are disturbed during road construction without proper hydrological assessments and construction techniques, they can change course, dry up, or even cause damage to the roads themselves. In response, the RoSPro: Roadside Spring Protection to Improve Water Security project, led by MetaMeta in collaboration with ICIMOD and FutureWater, aims to turn roads from threats into protectors of water resources in the Dhankuta district of Nepal. By aligning road design with local hydrogeology, RoSPro helps preserve springs, ensuring water security for communities while preventing road damage from unmanaged water flow.

Now at the end of its implementation phase, this video captures community members’ reflections on RoSPro’s impact and their experiences with the project.
