The starving Tihama, Yemen

During the war times in Yemen, crucial life-giving infrastructure in both the agriculture and water sectors are being partially damaged, or completely destroyed. The operational capacity in many infrastructures is less than 50%, making it difficult for the population to fulfill their basic needs of food and drinking water supplies. All that has led to starvation and sever food insecurity, and is leading to an inevitable famine.

Many spate irrigation systems and authorities have been badly damaged. Such acts in the international law mentioned in the Geneva Conventions is prohibited as it threatens the sustainability of the people’s livelihoods. Now the flood season in Yemen is approaching, there will be another catastrophe as the spate irrigation systems are not properly working, or have failed to work.
