This video is produced by MetaMeta as a partner in the RESOLVE (Resource Empowerment and Sustainability for Overall Community Vitality and Environmental Resilience) project implemented in collaboration with the Environment and Sustainable Development Unit (ESDU) at the American University of Beirut.
The RESOLVE project, now approaching its first year in Lebanon, addresses critical challenges that impact farmers’ livelihoods and the country’s food security. In this video, produced by MetaMeta within the RESOLVE project, farmers from the Shouf region share their experiences with the growing scarcity of water, a pressing issue affecting both agriculture and daily life. The Shouf area, characterized by its rugged mountains and diverse ecosystems, relies heavily on springs and wells that supply water for both domestic use and irrigation. Several springs that once supported communities and agricultural terraces now show significantly reduced discharge, particularly during dry seasons. This situation has intensified water scarcity and directly affected agricultural productivity, forcing some farmers to reduce cultivation or abandon fields altogether.
The video highlights the urgent need to protect both blue and green water flows and adopt regenerative agricultural practices that restore soils, maximize water efficiency, and ensure sustainable farming. By transitioning from linear to circular agricultural systems, communities can better adapt to climate change while safeguarding their resources. We would like to thank all farmers who shared their voices for this video and helped bring these critical stories to light.
