Video about Rainwater Harvesting in Peru – Ccatcca

This video on rainwater harvesting for food security shows the benefits of 3R Recharge, Retention and Reuse of rainwater in the Andes of Peru. The case is the Ccatcca micro catchment. An NGO has built 15 dams in agreement with the local governments, buffering rainwater in the upstream area of the catchment in order to produce grass for the cattle. More than 15,000 people have directly and indirectly benefitted from this project in an area that is troubled by negative consequences of climate change and soil erosion. Now, due to the dams, rainfed agriculure has flourished and crop and grass productivity has increased. In addition, the farmers found new ways of making money, for instance ginneapig-farming and yogurt production.
