Are you wasting water when you throw away fruit? Probably more than you can imagine.
Some processes like growing and washing fruit are impossible without water – but even so we can help to use that water more efficiently.
The first and most important action is not to waste perishable fruits such as apples, because any water that was used to produce it is wasted as soon as it goes in the bin. Also, try where possible to buy organic fruits, which avoid using the pesticides that contribute to water pollution.
1 apple = 82 litres of water= using 6847 ice cubes
Assumptions:
– a fresh apple weighing 100 g
– standard ice cube = 12 ml
