ACTA Garden in Amsterdam is a prestigious project where the new residents of the ACTA building (consisting basically of students and artists), in collaboration with local residents, volunteers and other interested parties, develop and maintain an edible garden.
This ultimate form of urban agriculture has lead an emerging phenomenon where community thinking, organic food and empowerment are a central point. In the light of climate change, economic crisis and the associated rising unemployment, these are the main themes of the coming decades.
Annet van Hoorn is one of Amsterdams main inspirators and coordinator of urban transition, benefiting the city with more functional green and also leading the unification of people from all backgrounds. She is also the main coordinator of the initiative Groene Ruimte Maken (Making Green Space).
