Out of the many gender mainstreaming workshops that take place each year, few are successful at motivating behavior change. But a workshop in Gondar, Ethiopia was different. Over 50 local Ethiopian agricultural researchers were taken to a farming community that they knew well, but assumed that what the men said was sufficient for their research. They were surprised to discover the magnitude of difference between male and female farmers’ preferences and the implications for their research.
