Looking after stingless bees in Ecuadorian Amazon

The Amazon is home to diverse stingless bee species like Melipona and Trigona, crucial for pollination and producing medicinal honey. Despite their value, these bees face threats from new settlers who destroy colonies. The UDAPT bee protection team in Ecuador works to preserve wild bee colonies, capturing and housing them in specially designed hives. Their efforts aim to combine livelihood creation with biodiversity preservation and medicinal honey production. Further documentation and study of these bees can enhance local ecology, support nature, health, and develop bee-related products, including honey, pollen, and wax.
