Road Water Harvesting in Tigrai, Ethiopia

In preparation for the rainy season, communities and natural resource bureaus are hard at work in Ethiopia’s northern Tigrai province, constructing structures to divert and capture runoff from roads when it rains. The effort is being fuelled by roadside community members contributing labour during one of the annual mass mobilisation campaigns carried out across Ethiopia by regional governments.

The captured water will serve farms and households during the dry season, and will recharge aquifers.
