Women, young people, land less and the rural poor stood central in the Upper Mandare Basin Development Project (1996-2008), in Madagaskar. These people were empowered through writing skill lessons, treeplantation projects, improved stoves planning, garden marketing and establishement of a local initiative fund. In 2008 the livelihoods of 6750 people, of which 4270 women, had been improved.
