The 2012 law of previous consultation makes clear that, before an extraction project can begin, a free and informed consultation to the population must be made in advance.
However, since 2002, local towns have developed their own consultation mechanisms in places like Tambogrande, Majaz, Kañaris, etc.
Such consultations resulted in a majority’s refusal to the mine.
Currently, thousands of activists are still persecuted, reported on, tried and imprisoned nationally. the number of murdered people keeps increasing.
