News fragment from 1965
It has been a dry dusty time for the Americans at Guantanamo. They have been cut off from the islands’ water supply for a year and have learned for the first time what it’s like to go short. The available supply was down by three quarters. The tanker Tulula was used to bring water from the States, she carried 4,5 million gallons each trip. Now (1965) a plant for desalting seawater is in production. Gtmo’s difficulties are over, what a joy to turn on the tap again.
